Sendai KOSEN held the Summer Program 2019 for Princess Chulabhorn Science High School (PCSHS) students* from July 30 to August 2.
In this Summer Program, 24 students from PCSHS who wish to enter KOSEN took an entrance examination in Tokyo on July 29, and then moved to Sendai KOSEN, the host college of Summer Program this year. They experienced the dormitory life and unique classes at KOSEN, and visited the Faculty of Science, Tohoku University and Sendai Castle Site. Especially, in the collaborative activity held on August 1, PCSHS students enjoyed working with some local junior high school students to make Tanabata (Star Festival) decorations and wearing yukata, Japanese traditional clothes. At the farewell party, each PCSHS student gave a short speech and one of them commented that "I experienced what I could never do in Thailand, and I was able to get in touch with new ideas and values."
Also, senior officials from the Thai Ministry of Education, officials from the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, and representatives from the PCSHS visited Sendai KOSEN and observed the students’ activities and campus facilities on July 30 and 31.
The purpose of this Summer Program is to have PCSHS students experience life and class environment in Japan through cross-cultural exchanges with Japanese students and local junior high school students. We hope that PCSHS students who participated in this Summer Program will be engineers who can also act as mediators between Thailand and Japan.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Hirose Junior High School and Nishikigaoka Junior High School for their great cooperation and participation in the collaborative activity of this Summer Program. Also, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Faculty of Science, Tohoku University for their courteous reception.
